Recipe Monday

After finding this recipe I don't think I'll ever buy store bought garlic bread again! I was very impressed.

Garlic Bread

2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
1 (15 by 3 1/2-inch) loaf Italian bread
(I just use a loaf of french bread, but then you have to make more. if you double the recipe it's probably enough for 1 and half loaves.)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Mince and mash garlic to a paste with salt using rounded end of a heavy knife. Stir together butter, oil, and garlic paste in a bowl until smooth, then stir in parsley.
Without cutting completely through bottom, cut bread diagonally into 1-inch thick slices with a serrated knife, then spread garlic butter between slices,
Wrap loaf in foil and bake in middle of oven 15 minutes. Open foil and bake 5 minutes more.
Cook's note: Bread can be spread with garlic butter 8 hours ahead and chilled, wrapped in foil. Let stand at room temperature 30 minutes before baking.
For a brighter flavor, you can substitute 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh basil for 1 tablespoon of parsley.

Okay, totally non-recipe related, but I wanted to answer your question on my blog.

You go to www.sitemeter.com and register for a free account. There is a logo that you have to add to your site that says "sitemeter" (mine is on the bottom of my right sidebar)and they email you stats every week.

You can also log into your free account and see the details of hits to your site. They actually show them in a bunch of different categories like location, most recent, page views, world map, by referral (which shows you which pages they came to your site from, which is cool to see what google searches are getting people to your blog...), time of day they visited, etc.

Sitemeters are tons of fun and even helpful. For instance, I know from the sitemeter that the two most popular times for people to read my site are 10am and 2pm. So I like to post at 9am and then check for comments after 3pm.

But I should warn you that a sitemeter can also be a bit dangerous. There are bloggers that go sitemeter crazy and check it multiple times a day to see how popular they are and how long people are staying on their site and random stuff like that...and then they get frustrated if the # of visitors or # of minutes or # of page views isn't what they expected or wanted and then they get all down on themselves...kinda like "nobody likes me, everybody hates me, not enough stats this week..." And I think that's kinda dumb. Don't measure the worth of your blog or the worth of your thoughts by the sitemeter.

And for your second question...I'm not sure. I've seen links on other blogs that say "blog roll me" and that looks like an easy link thing, but I've never tried it. Stephanie taught me just to add them in the code by copying the line of link code above the list, then pasting it in and changing just the site address and the name of the blog. But if you find an easy way let me know, k? :)
